My family and I find ourselves in a time of transition. We are somewhere in space and time between moving from Chicago to Portland, currently living in Olympia, Washington as it all unfolds. It has been a process that has taken a few years and isn't ending yet. If you've ever been in transition for a period of time then you know that it's not the easiest. Maybe not the easiest but sometimes the juiciest. Because life is full when you give it space to breathe.
With never ending strands of loosey-goosey plans, I have been a daily devotee to breathing in life, savoring the little things and not getting caught up in what came before and what lies ahead. Never has there been a time when I have had more practice in being present to Now. I like how my daughter's book says it, "The past is sailing off to sea, the future's fast asleep. A day is all you have to be, it's all you get to keep." (Full text below) Now is really all we ever have and I intend to make the most of it
I find myself most content when reading a good book, enjoying beautiful surroundings outdoors, learning more about simple and whole foods, cooking that food, traveling to interesting places both near and far, scouring antique shops and flea markets, imagining and creating lovely spaces, getting organized, writing my thoughts, capturing life through my camera, serving others in my community but most of all, spending time with my husband Matt, daughter Lucia and our other family and friends.
All in a Day by Cynthia Rylant
A day is a perfect piece of time to live a life
to plant a seed
to watch the sun go by
A day starts early
work to do
beneath a brand-new sky
A day brings hope
and kindness too
a day is all its own
You can make a wish
and start again
you can find your way back home
Every bird and every tree and every living thing
love the promise in a day
loves what it can bring
There is a faith in morningtime
there is belief in noon
evening will come whispering and shine a bright round moon
A day can change just everything
given half a chance
rain could show up at your door and teach you how to dance
The past is sailing off to sea
the future's fast asleep
a day is all you have to be
it's all you get to keep
Underneath that great big sky the earth is all a-spin
this day will soon be over
and it won't come back again
So live it well, make it count
fill it up with you
The day's all yours, it's waiting now
see what you can do
