Lucia's First Week at Home

I have had many requests for more pictures from friends and family who don't live in Chicago. Well, that's no problem for me since you know that I have taken tons of them! Here are a few of my favorites from our first week at home with Lucia.

After her first bath.

Love all those different expressions!

I just love snuggling with her

Addison and Caroline were over too but I didn't get a picture of them with Lucia.

It has been a great first week! Lucia has given us some nights with good stretches of sleep and some with hardly any sleep at all. In general I feel well rested (I didn't think I'd say that this first week!) and it's hard to care that you're getting up when she's just so cute! We have been blessed by many visits and meals from family and friends, thanks guys! And it has been great to go on walks to the lake and around our neighborhood in this beautiful weather we have been having. Matt goes back to work on Monday and we'll miss him; it has been great to have him at home this week.

Lucia Gloria

Our daughter, Lucia Gloria, made her big debut last week on March 6th. She was a big girl weighing 8 pounds 12 ounces and measuring 21 inches long.

Each birth story is unique and Lucia's was no exception. I had been in labor for 23 hours when the doctor came in and declared that after giving it the "old college try", (*actual quote) I would need to have a c-section. I'll spare you the details; we'll just say that little Lucia was just too comfortable and needed a little help coming out. But all's well that ends well and we were just thankful for a healthy little girl.

Here's our view of the sunset from our hospital room on the night before Lucia was born. At this point everyone was pretty sure she would be born on the 5th so I thought it would be fun to have a picture of the sunset on the day she was born...but...turns out that she just barely missed it and was born on the 6th at 12:15 am.

First family photo!

We were lucky to have lots of visitors come to visit us and Lucia in the hospital. Here she is with her cousins Gwen and Sonja.

And meeting her cousins Addison and Caroline (who call her 'baby cia').

I just love those big, blue eyes!

Here we are getting ready to head home.

The rose from church celebrating Lucia's birth.

It has been fun being at home and getting used to our new family of three. Matt has been off of work so we have had lots of time to take on our new roles as parents together. (Plus it has been close to 70 degrees here in Chicago so it has been nice to enjoy being outside again.)

Welcome Lucia! We are lucky to be your parents and we love you so much already!

40 Weeks

Today is my due date. Here is my 40 week self portrait.

On average, firsts are born around 41 weeks so I had been mentally preparing myself to go past the due date. I am still feeling good and I haven't gotten to the "I have to get this baby out of me!" phase yet (but I guess we'll see how I feel if I get to 42 weeks!). The whole process of pregnancy and labor is so amazing, how your body knows what to do and how the baby comes when it's supposed to, so we'll just patiently wait for the little one (while doing all those natural little things that help the baby to get moving).
