Lucia at 9 weeks

Lucia is nine weeks now. She is so sweet, really starting to smile, coo and 'talk back' to you when you talk to her. It's so fun to see a little personality start to emerge. She's in the 90th percentile for weight and 75th for height so she's growing quite well. She *sometimes* sleeps through the night but at least it's more fun getting up with her now that she smiles back at us:) Here are some pics from the last month or so...

Baby burrito

Out cold with Janine.

Lucia's cousin, Sonja, imitating her.

And her cousin, Naomi, giving her a kiss (we made Naomi do this about 30 times to get a good pic).

Two of her favorite things: sucking her fingers in her bouncy seat...I guess that's why her eyes are so wide.

Naomi likes to come over to Lucia's car seat to look at her.

I started back to work a few weeks ago. My sister Linnea and I switch off babysitting while the other works. It has been going well even though it's not fun to leave Lucia. This is what I come back to in the afternoons after work. She is getting pretty comfortable over there.

These pictures were taken on Mother's Day (my first one!)

Love that smile :)

And this face...whatever it is.

Simple Quinoa and Corn

I have been a fan of quinoa since living in Bolivia where it is a staple and has been since the time of the Inca's (not a trendy health food!). There are so many ways to eat it and so many good recipes you can include it is, both savory and sweet. This recipe has become one of my favorite ways to make quinoa. It is so simple that you can barely call it a recipe.

Just boil 1 cup of quinoa in water for about ten minutes, adding 2 cups frozen corn to the water for the last few minutes. Drain then add a tablespoon or so of butter and salt and pepper to taste. This makes a lot so good thing it makes for good leftovers too!
